“Touchien River Graffiti” in Honor of Hsinchu's Mother River

2009 concert program of Hsin Chu Wind Orchestra

Hsin Chu Wind Orchestra presented two afternoon of River-inspired music “Touchien River Graffiti” at Hsinchu and Taipei City on April in honor of the mother river Touchien River to Hsinchu area. The program was featuring major works, including Antonín Dvo ř ák's Symphony No .9 ” From the New World” (1893) , Bedrich Smetana 's “ The Moldau “ (1874), as well as by Taiwanese music composer Gabby Tsai's work “Touchien River Graffiti”. Moreover, John Ying, a popular Taiwanese singer, was also invited as a guest to lead the concert.

Not only has Hsin Chu Wind Orchestra dedicated in their music innovation and cultural offerings, but emulated Smetana's “The Moldau” to evoke the sounds of Hsinchu's mother river Touchien River by using tone painting and media means in this concert as well. Moreover, Gabby Tsai used Hakka and Taiwanese poems as narration of Taiwan 's beauty in culture and geography so that it gave a clear picture to a large audience.
